Where to get a live Christmas Tree this season? Here’s a look at some options around NWGA in 2025

|

|

Looking to liven up the holiday season by keeping the scent of a fresh-cut tree in the home? There are several options around the region that will give those looking for a Christmas decorating option.

There are several spots around the immediate coverage area in Northwest Georgia, but one better know what kind of tree they want before they simply go to the lawn and garden center to purchase something.

Here’s a quick rundown of the kinds of trees you’ll be shopping for this holiday season:

Fraser Fir

FraserFirFoliage

These are all going to be pre-cut, but are the traditional type of tree found on holiday movies and specials.

The tree features the darker color and bulky needles, but buyer beware: the tree is endangered species of fir native to the Appalachian Mountains of the southeastern United States.

If care is taken and roots can establish with good watering during the holiday season and after, it might be possible to replant this species in the yard somewhere. So consider helping save these trees for future generations of holiday lovers to enjoy.

Blue Ice

Nordmann

Also known as the Nordmann fir or Caucasian fir, these are actually trees native to Eastern Europe and the Caucuses.

Like the Fraser Fir, these trees have thick needle vegetation.

Eastern Red Cedar

Juniperus virginiana near Oxford, Ohio

You probably know these well, but the Eastern Red Cedar or the Virginian Juniper in some circles is found all across the Eastern half of the nation.

They grow taller if left in good soil, and have nice thick more leafy foliage and a hearty smell.

Leyland Cypress

Cupressocyparis leylandii

A leafy thick needled tree, this evergreen has a thick base and grows upward with training to a nice holiday-style shape.

Murray Cypress

An improved version of the Leyland Cypress, it is faster growing and more wind-resistant. Good for a privacy screen if replanted.

Carolina Sapphire

A lighter colored needle with thick foliage, the Carolina Sapphire produces a thick that tapers at the top and provides a different opportunity for decorators looking for a traditional look and smell inside the home but with something that also reminds one of a snowy Christmas unlikely to be found in this part of the south.

Expect only limited options for this variety around the area.

Virginia Pine

Virginia Pines

Despite sharp needles, this thick foliaged and bright green pine is common among decorations and tree farms across the southeast, providing an opportunity for a regional favorite tree, wreaths, or garlands for traditional decorators.

White Pine

Wt

You’ll find the White Pine similar to its cousin the Virginia Pine: thick, sharp and green needles. Easy to shape and keep as a tree, but also perfect for garlands and wreaths.
