Sunshine will be greeting Northwest Georgia and bringing a bit of a rise in temps for the start of the weekend, but expect a cold snap to ruin the fun before all is said and done per the latest forecast from NWS Peachtree City.
The good news? The Saturday forecast calls for sunshine and temps in the 70s around the region for the opening of the weekend, and clear skies will remain overnight as lows dip into the 40s and 50s heading into Sunday.
Chances for rain will start increasing as the day wears on for Sunday and highs will be in the 70s again in Northwest Georgia, but as the old saying goes: don’t like the forecast? Wait around a few minutes, it’ll change.
So it turns out Old Man Winter ain’t quite done with the region just yet as a cold snap will be following rain and potential severe weather moving in during the overnight hours on Sunday and into Monday morning.
Behind the cold front will be truly chilly temperatures and gusting winds, bringing the thermometer down into the 30s overnight on Sunday and leave behind the need to turn on heaters again through Monday and into the remainder of the week.
Look for the week to open with rainy conditions during the morning hours and then clearing up by the afternoon, with highs only in the 50s heading into St. Patrick’s Day.
Then the cold snap truly hits overnight with mixed clouds and lows into the 20s heading into the holiday on Tuesday. Highs will be in the 40s, and dip down below freezing into the 20s again on Tuesday night into Wednesday.
A slow warm up then will work its way into the upcoming remainder of the week, with highs in the 50s on Wednesday, getting back into the 60s on Thursday, and settling back into spring on Friday in the 70s across the region.
Clear skies are expected to dominate next weekend and stay awhile, with temps settling into the 70s and 80s as the season changes officially on Friday.
