WEATHER: Short heat wave bringing summer temps to Northwest Georgia amid, cooler temps potentially return

The heat is cranking up across the region over the coming days, but cooler forecasts return ahead of summer’s full return in the coming days.

NWS Peachtree City is expecting that temperatures will feel like well over the 100 degree mark heading into the latter half of the week, but good news: rain is back in the forecast this weekend.

Expect highs on Thursday up into upper 80s and low 90s around the region, with a heat index into the upper 90s and low 100s for Northwest Georgia, and more the same for Friday.

Saturday’s high will also get into the low 90s around the area with sunshine, but look for chances of rain to increase heading into Sunday, with highs in the upper 80s before the temps start coming down heading into the first half of the coming week. Rainfall chances for Sunday is up toward the 70% mark, and remaining around that mark heading into the first half of next week.

Sunshine sticks around until Monday, with cloudy skies dominating through Tuesday and into Wednesday as a front pushes in for the final days of spring’s official calendar.

The opening of summer is coming up on Sunday, June 21, which also falls on Father’s Day 2026.

Over in the tropics, no activity is currently active in the Atlantic Basin – with a low chance of any disturbances forming that could turn into storms around the Yucatan peninsula.

Over in the Eastern Pacific along the southwestern Mexican coastline, the National Hurricane Center is tracking Tropical Depression Cristina. It’s the third named storm of the season so far in the Eastern Pacific.
