|

|

Wet weather is returning to the forecast for midweek, but sunshine is going to be back by the weekend per NWS Peachtree City.

Expect rainfall during the evening hours on Tuesday evening and night, with chances of rain starting between 4 and 6 p.m., and sticking around through at least the early morning hours on Wednesday.

At least a quarter inch of rainfall in total is expected, and up to maybe half an inch in some places around Northwest Georgia.

Temps will be in the mid 50s to low 60s through the region on Tuesday, and down into the upper 30s to low 40s overnight, but should settle out into the 50s and 60s again on Wednesday and remain in the 40s overnight.

Expect some slight cooling into the 40s and low 50s on Thursday, and down into the upper 20s to mid 30s during the overnight and early morning hours. Clouds will give way to clear skies through the rest of the week and into the weekend.

Sunday will see some partly cloudy skies and highs in the 50s to low 60s, and down into the upper 20s to mid 30s overnight.

Space Forecast

The weather close to home is turning warmer, but the weather in space has really heated up solar storms being caused by large flares coming off the sun’s surface.

The X8.1 strength storm flare came earlier in the evening on Sunday, sending out a coronal mass ejection that should pass mostly by the earth on Thursday., with chances of some issues caused by the electromagnetic impacts of the CME.

High frequency radio signals could be impacted on Thursday by the solar storm, things like amateur radio, satellite communications, military and emergency communications could be impacted by the incoming solar storm.

The sun spot that produced the latest solar storm was still sending flares outward as of early Monday, and more activity is expected from the region on the sun – 4366 – through the rest of the week.

More winter? Spring soon?

The groundhogs on Monday morning disagreed on whether there will be six more weeks of winter, or an early spring forecast.

Depending on which furry rodent one believes, it is either chances for more snow or a warmup. Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow during a ceremony up in Pennsylvania earlier on Tuesday morning and so predicted six more weeks of winter along with Georgia’s General Beauregard “Beau” Lee, but Yonah the Groundhog up in the North Georgia Wildlife Park didn’t see his shadow, meaning an early spring.

Several other groundhogs weighed in as well: Birmingham Bill, Staten Island Chuck, Shubenacadie Sam and many more.

Whether groundhogs see their shadow or not, the good news for Northwest Georgia: temps are on a warming trend, but don’t hold your breath for it to last well into April.

WEATHER: Warm temps for Tuesday, shower chances return for midweek

1 (16)

The warm sunshine wasn’t destined to last forever amid the winter season, but it sure is a nice break from formerly freezing temps across the region (and nation) over the past weeks.

The thermometer got up into the 70s in some parts of Northwest Georgia on Monday, and temps could get up to the mid 70s in the farthest southern parts of the area on Tuesday as the last stretch of warm through the rest of the week turns mild and somewhat chilly overnight, with showers ahead on and off through the rest of the week.

NWS Peachtree City expects party sunny skies on Tuesday as a front moves in, with the rain beginning on Tuesday night and into Wednesday as chances currently sit at 60% for showers – mainly after midnight into the early morning midweek hours.

Once the front moves through – with breezes and wind gusts up to 15 mph at times and potentially more speedy at higher elevations – temps will come down near freezing overnight on Wednesday with clear skies heading into a brief return to sunshine on Thursday.

Temps will be in the mid 50s to mid 60s around Northwest Georgia heading into the tail-end of the week, with lows down into the upper 30s and lower 40s with chances of showers moving right back into the region, and remaining through the end of the week and into Valentine’s Day weekend.

Friday’s forecast calls for slight chances of showers and highs into the upper 50s and low 60s again, and then dipping down into the 40s with even some chances for rumbles of thunder up to around 30% overnight.

Unfortunately those planning for romantic picnics on Saturday will have to hold off with chances of showers increasing through the day and highs into the upper 50s and low 60s around the area. Expect weekend dates during the evening and night time hours to require umbrellas as rainfall is essentially a given with a 90% chance of showers and a low in the upper 40s and low 50s for Northwest Georgia.

Sunday morning church services following the holiday weekend will also be rainy, with highs in the low 60s for the day and rain chances expected to stick around as the last of the weekend front moves out by Sunday night.

Sunshine will return for President’s Day, with highs in the mid-60s expected around the area.

Expect above average temps to stick around next week as well, with highs predicted in the 60s and 70d through mid week and into the following weekend.
