WEATHER: Rain expected for holiday weekend after warm start to April

No kidding: the weather in Northwest Georgia is absolutely beautiful.

NWS Peachtree City is expecting sunshine and warm temps to remain through the rest of the week, but expect some April showers to return to give the region a headache when it comes to Easter events planned for the weekend.

Rain chances for Saturday were sitting at a low possible at 30% to 40% or so for the area, but expect those chances to increase as the forecast updates through Friday, per NWS Peachtree City’s current predictions.

Highs will be in the 80s through Saturday and stick into the 60s for the area overnight, but look for Easter Sunday to see a slight dip from early spring warmth down into the 60s and 70s, and lows into the 40s in some spots around the region and upper elevations.

It’ll stay there for the start of next week as isolated storms are expected for Monday and Tuesday following the holiday with highs in the 60s and low 70s, and lows down into the 40s and 50s. Good news: a warming trend after heading into the end of next week is expected as the thermometer will remain in the upper 70s and low 80s for highs, and down into the 50s overnight.

Expect the spring forecast to also keep pollen counts high as blooming trees, flowers and even grass are filling the air with particulates. The main culprits are still Oak, Mulberry, Pine, Sycamore and Willow trees putting out much of the pollen and bringing the count into extremely high levels through mid-April.

Long and short? Be prepared for a chance for Easter Egg hunts to get rained out – but not just yet. Definitely keep an umbrella handy for Easter Sunday trips to church in the morning, and stock up on allergy meds.
