WEATHER: Flood Watch in effect through overnight Saturday for portions of NWGA as Arthur’s remnants head this way

A flood watch began this morning and continues for the far southern counties of Northwest Georgia as rain and the potential for severe weather is on the way due to the remnants of the first tropical cyclone moving ashore for the hurricane season.
NWS Peachtree City has Bartow, Haralson, Paulding and Polk Counties within Northwest Georgia under a flood watch through 2 a.m. on Saturday. Additionally, a wind advisory in place for Haralson and Paulding counties from 6 p.m. today until 8 a.m. Friday.
Though the remainder of the region is not under any watches or advisories at the moment, expect winds and heavy rain as meteorologists expect 2 to 4 inches of rain in areas, and more than 5 inches in some spots as the system that was Arthur moves through the Deep South. Much of Alabama and Mississippi are also expecting heavy rains.
Winds could gust as high as 35 mph, but expect a sustained wind of at least 15 mph.
Rainfall and wind could combine to cause dangerous conditions, causing both flooded roadways and also downed trees within the next 36 to 48 hours.
Tropical Storm Arthur dissipated after it made landfall on the northeast Texas coastline near Louisiana on Wednesday night. The remnants of the storm are sitting over Louisiana, a majority of Mississippi and Southwest Alabama at the time of writing, and moving toward Georgia. The first round of rainfall should begin sometime around noon.
Rain should be sticking around through the rest of the week and the potential for additional showers and thunderstorms over the weekend. Highs will remain in the mid to upper 80s through the rest of the week and into the weekend, and stay there through the start of the final full week of June.
NWS Peachtree City is calling for chances of showers over the next seven days, and highs in the mid 80s with the official start of summer on Sunday.
