WEATHER: First Tropical Storm of season set to bring more rain to NWGA

A early-season tropical storm that developed along the Texas coast will see its remnants coming to Northwest Georgia through the remainder of the week, but clear skies should return by the weekend per the National Weather Service.

The National Hurricane Center is tracking Tropical Storm Arthur, which reformed off the coast of Galveston in the Gulf and is expected to make landfall around the Houston area before the remnants push inland and head eastward.

The northeast coastline of Texas and western Louisiana are under Tropical Storm Warnings as landfall was predicted around 7 p.m. Central, and by 1 a.m. should return to being a tropical depression over east Texas and western Louisiana inland.

Arthur’s remnants will then begin moving eastward overnight and into the morning hours, bringing the rain, winds and thunderstorms into the rest of the deep south including Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.

The rainfall will begin during the morning hours and into lunchtime, with at least a half inch of rain around the region during the day and another half inch likely overnight. Rain and thunderstorms are expected into Friday as well, but should start blowing off by Saturday. A flood watch will be in effect from 8 a.m. through early Saturday morning at 2 a.m.

Chances of rain are slight and highs should start getting back into the upper 80s heading into Father’s Day weekend and the first official day of summer on Sunday. Highs will be in the upper 80s again, with chances of rain increasing and will remain heading into the final full week of June.

Highs over the coming days will be in the low to mid 80s, and lows down into the upper 60s and low 70s.
