Well into the afternoon hours, low humidity and dry conditions throughout Georgia have officials concerned that fire weather is in the forecast for the coming days.
Georgia remains under drought conditions throughout the state, and the forecast after a wet weekend have dried back up and provide the perfect fuel for brush fires that can get out of control. Meteorologists from Peachtree City’s National Weather Service office are also concerned that those fires could spread faster with wind speeds up to 25 mph throughout the Northwest Georgia area.
Long and short? Things could get toasty if these conditions persist and people are burning over the coming days.
NWS Peachtree City is asking residents to abstain from lighting any fires for the remainder of the day and into the rest of the week as dry and windy conditions persist heading into the middle of the spring season in Northwest Georgia.
The areas of most concern in the region include Bartow, Haralson, and Paulding counties primarily.
Much of the Metro Atlanta area, along with areas of Coastal, East, Central and West Georgia are under fire weather statements for the time being. However South-Central Georgia is under a Red Flag Warning, and burning is extremely dangerous for the coming hours and into the upcoming remainder of the week.
Temperatures are warming back up as well after a cooldown for the Easter Sunday holiday. Expect highs at midweek to hit the mid 70s around the region, then drop into the 40s and 50s overnight before warming back up into the mid to upper 80s by the weekend.
Sunshine with some mixed clouds is expected to dominate the forecast, along with winds that are gusting between 15 and 20 mph over the coming days.
Those who are going to be outdoors over the coming days should ensure they are keeping some fluids with them, sunscreen on and a hat for some shade while enjoying nature.
Also expect to need some allergy medication for those outdoors for prolonged periods, as pollen counts will remain high over the coming days as well as spring remains in full bloom.
