FORECAST: Temp range returning to summer norms, chances of rain increasing later this week

Chances of rain are increasing, but temps are settling back into the reasonable range for summertime in Northwest Georgia, per the latest National Weather Service forecast out of Peachtree City.

Highs are in the low 90s on the day throughout much of the region and a heat index up to 100, but it won’t last as chances of rain return later this week and midweek brings another round of warm and chances for isolated showers and thunderstorms.

Temperatures will stabilize in the low 90s through the remainder of the week and chances of rain will be highest on Thursday, with no heat index expected but the skies clearing out through Thursday night.

Rain chances return to the remainder of the week and into the weekend, with highs in the low 90s and lows in the 70s.

Expect rainfall on Sunday with the high only getting into the upper 80s, and chances of rain will stick around through Monday during the day to start the upcoming week.

Any showers and thunderstorms will be fueled by the summer heat, and could generate gusty winds upward of 50 mph and lightning.

Highs during the upcoming week will remain in the low 90s and chances of rain will be scattered if any is expected at all.

Long and short? Keep the umbrella handy just in case, but don’t expect rainfall until later this week.

Super Typhoon Bavi

The big typhoon that hit Guam and the Northern Marianas Islands is now tracking on its way to the Philippines and the South China Sea. It has thus far caused no casualties reported in the U.S. territories in the Pacific, but has caused damage at one of the major military bases in the Pacific theater.

Super Typhoon Bavi hit with winds over 150 mph and major amounts of rain during its passage over the region already hit hard by a typhoon in April.

Roads were made impassable with the latest typhoon, and power and water services were knocked out on the island of Rota.

Hurricane season still uneventful

Other than a gulf storm that blew through earlier in the season, hurricane activity in the Atlantic Ocean remains otherwise inactive.

The real trouble remains in the Pacific, where storm formation is possible for a disturbance off the southwest coast of Mexico, and another south of Hawaii with higher chances of cyclone formation.

Hurricane season is likely to remain uneventful overall as El Nino conditions persist over the Pacific, impacting upper atmospheric wind patterns that help lead to hurricane formation.
