Floyd County Commission holding special called meeting for courthouse expenses

ROME — After a fire destroyed the historic downtown courthouse in Rome in March, the Floyd County Commission will be meeting on Monday to ensure that money is set aside for emergency requirements.

The County Commission’s special called session is set for Monday at 11 a.m., where the board will consider funding requests to stabilize the remains of the historic courthouse in downtown Rome and additional emergency funds needed for operations that were hosted within that building.

That included the County Tax and Tag offices.

Officials moved those offices to 5 Government Plaza – across the street on the first floor – but have to shift around other operations to make it work.

A closure remains in place around the site including Fifth Avenue from the bridge to Broad Street.

Those are the only two items on the County Commission’s agenda for Monday.

Check back for more updates as they become available.
